Hospitality is defined as the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers. We believe that generosity is something we all can practice a little more and for those who like to host events, they seem to be always looking for ways to be generous to their guests. How about bringing back the house party?

Historically, the house party was for medium to large groups of people who gathered at the home of the host for fun and entertainment. Think of the house parties of the 18th and 19th centuries where the affluent would gather at each other’s country manor for weeks to hunt, gamble and dine and socialize.

Today, we no longer have homes that have numerous guest rooms, but we can still host a house party at a beach house, lake house or mountain cabin. Lots of people rent houses during the summer at the beach with extra rooms in anticipation of invited friends and family arriving as needed to fit busy lifestyles. Recently, friends rented several cabins at a ski resort so they could go from house to house and do progressive dinners, themed parties and house babysitters and kids while adults enjoyed festivities.
